Three Different Clinical Presentations for Focal Glomerulosclerosis (Fgs)

Abstract

At l a t e s t follow-up t h r y were d i v i d e d i n t o 3 groups:15 c h i l d r e n had a b s e n t o r minimal p r o t e i n u r l a and normal blood p r r s o u r e and r e n a l f u n c t l o n ("recnvrred"); 9 h a d h r l v y p r o t e l nu r i a a n d / o r h y p e r t e n s i o n ( " a c t i v e d i s e a s e " ) ; and 1 0 c h l l d r e n had e i t h e r d l e d o r showed c h r o n i c r e n a l f a i l u r e (cRF).I n 21 p a t i e n t s biopsy was performed w i t h i n 6 months of onset.I n 1 6 of t h e s e , l~s s t h a n 20% of glomeruli showed segmental o r g l o b a l s r l e r o s i s ; 12 had r e c o v e r r d , 3 had a c t i v e d l s r a s r and one showed CRF.I n c o n t r a s t , 4 of 5 c h l l d r e n w i t h > 20% sclerotic glomeruli showed CRF and t h e o t h e r one a c t i v e d i s e a s e ( p <0.01).
