Three-Dimensional Design Method of Overhead Transmission Line Based on BIM Technology

Abstract: Because of the high complexity and large scale of transmission line engineering, a large amount of data will be generated in the traditional two-dimensional (2D) design process, and the work of each stage is relatively independent. The design results are difficult to be effectively managed and integrated, and timely information interaction within and between specialties can not be achieved. BIM (Building Information Modelling) technology has powerful functions of digitalization and information management. This… Show more

“…The first method is to use lidar scanning technology to scan around the transmission tower to obtain the spatial 3D information of the transmission tower, and then use PointCloud, Cyclone and other software to perform 3D reconstruction. There is a large error between the model established in this way and the entity, which cannot meet the needs of precise positioning of the robot [ 15 ]. The second is to generate the geometric model through the complete 2D CAD drawings and lofting dimensions of the transmission tower provided by the design institute, adding the components to the tower model one by one, then adding the geometric dimension information of the components, and finally using the 3D model building software such as 3ds MAX to build up the components of the tower with 3D primitives, thereby establishing a complete 3D model of the transmission tower [ 16 ].…”

“…Transmission line path selection is one of the important components of transmission line design, which is directly related to the construction cost and disaster resistance of transmission line projects. With the rapid development of 3D digital technology, relying on 3D satellite cloud images to judge the terrain and features around the transmission line path has become the first choice for transmission line path selection [2][3][4]. Usually, designers need to judge and properly avoid sensitive objects such as houses, ponds, orchards on the way of the transmission line through the 3D satellite cloud image.…”
