Three‐dimensional distribution of mesoplankton assemblages in the Central Atlantic

Abstract: Aim: Mesoplankton distribution depends on many factors including depth, hydrological parameters, trophic conditions, etc. Recent studies show a link between mesoplankton biomass and trophic factors in the deep sea, whereas relationships between deep-sea mesoplankton structure/composition and trophic factors remain unknown.Location: Central Atlantic, between 32°S and 42°N, 14°W and 46°W.

“…In particular, Supplementary S1 encompasses total biomass, SST , Chl and sampling gear data for the samples collected in 1950–2016 (the whole analysed time span). Due to heterogeneity of data sources for the samples collected before 2012, information on individual taxa is not available for this period; data on taxa sampled in 2012–2016 may be found in Vedenin et al (2022).…”

“…More and more researchers have realised the importance of investigating the vertical distribution of plankton species, like in the central Atlantic Ocean where four mesozooplankton groups were vertically distinguished (Vedenin et al, 2022). Preliminary studies have also shown that Tintinnina can be vertically distributed according to different groups (Wang et al, 2020;Wang et al, 2021).…”
