“…The presence of Er 3+ did not affect the structural and morphological features of the TiO 2 significantly, whereas photocatalytic experiments clearly evidenced that Er introduction into TiO 2 matrix would promote the profiting of NIR photons, enhancing the photoactivity of the catalyst.Gadolinium (Gd) doping raises VB maximum with respect to the Fermi level and thus turns the intrinsic virgin phase into a p-type semiconductor. Choi et al synthesized three-dimensional Gd-doped TiO 2 nanofibers using a simple electrospinning technique[233]. The pristine Gd-doped TiO 2 nanofibers showed a higher photocatalytic activity than the TiO 2 nanoparticles, which could be attributed to the fast electron transport.…”

“…Corresponding unit cells of undoped and Gd‐doped TiO 2 anatase are depicted in Figure a,d. In the case of doping, the replacement of Ti with Gd within the anatase lattice is accompanied by structural changes, due to a different cation radius and charge of Gd that further affect ground‐state charge density distribution and the density of states (DOS) . Figure compares the charge density distribution within the lattice of anatase and Gd‐doped anatase (Figure b,e), and also the corresponding calculated DOS and partial DOS (PDOS) (Figure c,f).…”
