Three-dimensional global pattern prediction for tyre tread wear

Abstract: A theoretical tyre model was developed analytically using the proposed middle plane for predicting the three-dimensional global tyre wear qualitatively and quantitatively as a function of the road roughness and the dynamic characteristics of the vehicle. Diagrams of the tyre wear pattern across the tyre width and along the tyre circumference were drawn for different road roughnesses, camber angles and vehicle dynamic characteristics. The numerical results show how the three-dimensional tyre wear pattern varied… Show more

“…Of these components, the normal contact pressure distribution is one of the most important components of the contact features and is often used in many studies for analysis of the mechanical behaviours of tyres. 15, 20, 27 Obviously, the tyre–ground contact features are complex and difficult to characterize numerically. However, it is possible to characterize the normal contact pressure distribution to represent some key variables.…”

“…It is worth mentioning that the brush stiffnesses obtained from the experiment were the global stiffnesses in the contact region, and the stiffness per unit length must be considered. The wear coefficients and the frictional coefficients were obtained from the work of Huang et al 27…”
