Direct dehydrogenation (DDH) of ethylbenzene is an efficient chemical process for styrene production. Nanocarbon materials, as clean and low‐cost catalysts, have drawn more and more attention in this field. In this work, inspired by the promoting effect of support modulation on the catalytic performance of the general supported‐type catalyst, we present a facile sulfate surfactant assisted dispersion with subsequent annealing (SADA) approach for preparing sulphur‐doped supported nanodiamond catalyst on carbon nanotube (ND/CNT‐SDS) with abundant active sites by using sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as both the dispersing agent for promoting the dispersion of catalytically active ND motif and the CNT support and the sulphur source for sulphur doping, yielding an outstanding supported ND catalyst for DDH of ethylbenzene to styrene with 7.7 mmol g−1cat. h−1 of styrene rate and 98.2 % of styrene selectivity. ND/CNT‐SDS catalyst demonstrates 3.0 times higher styrene rate of the pristine ND. Moreover, ND/CNT‐SDS catalyst shows 1.5 times higher styrene rate of the previously reported defect‐enriched N,O‐codoped ND/CNT (N,O‐ND/CNT‐d) with up to 98 % of similar styrene selectivity, ascribed to its more exposed C=O active sites and higher specific surface area originating from the promoted dispersion of both ND and CNT by SDS, as well as the sulphur‐doping. Moreover, this work also presents a novel and efficient method for the designing the other supported nanocarbon catalysts from dispersion‐required catalytically active nanocarbon motif and the nanocarbon carrier.

One‐Pot Synthesis of Sulfur and Nitrogen Co‐Functionalized Graphene Material using Deep Eutectic Solvents for Supercapacitors

A green approach to the synthesis of sulfur and nitrogen co‐functionalized reduced graphene oxide (SN‐rGO) is presented; it involves the reduction of graphene oxide (GO) using a deep eutectic solvent (DES) as chemical reducing agent and dopant. For the first time, a DES of choline chloride and sodium sulfide comprising cheap and safe components is introduced, and is both highly effective and reusable as a reducing agent for the production of SN‐rGO. The DES is utilized as a solvent as well as reducing agent and dopant to generate SN‐rGO. This DES is highly efficient in removing oxygen functionalities from GO and for subsequent sulfur and nitrogen functionalization for high energy‐storage efficiency. The reduction ability of this DES is confirmed with five consecutive cycles, which adds to its sustainability and recyclability in the development of energy‐storage devices. SN‐rGO exhibits a high specific capacitance of 509 F g−1 at 1 A g−1, which corresponds to high energy and power densities of 57.3 Wh kg−1 and 1804.7 W kg−1, respectively. This simple and green method for direct reduction of GO with sulfur and nitrogen functionalization on the graphene surface can provide cost‐effective bulk production of a nanocarbon template for energy storage applications.

Graphene and graphene oxide (GO), as wonder materials, have penetrated nearly every field of research. One of their most attractive features is the functionality and assembly of graphene or GO, in which they can be considered to be chemically functionalized building blocks for creating unconventional porous graphene materials (PGMs) that not only combine the merits of both porous materials and graphene, but also have major advantages over other porous carbons for specific applications. The chemistry and approaches for functionalizing graphene and GO are first introduced, and typical procedures for pore creation (e.g., in-plane pores, 2D laminar pores, and 3D interconnected pore assemblies), self-assembly, and tailoring mechanisms for PGMs to highlight the significance of precise control over the pore morphology and pore size are summarized. Because of their unique pore structures, with different morphologies and intriguing properties, PGMs serve as key components in a variety of applications such as energy storage, electrocatalysis, and molecular separation. Finally, the challenges relating to PGMs from the understanding of chemical self-assembly to specific applications are discussed, and promising solutions on how to tackle them are presented. This provides an insightful outlook for the future development of the chemistry and applications of PGMs.
