Three-dimensional ultrasound in gynecological clinical practice

Abstract: Three-dimensional ultrasound is an imaging technique that is being introduced into clinical practice in several medical specialties. Although this technique is unlikely to replace the two-dimensional ultrasound, its role as a diagnostic tool is being explored. In fact, in the field of gynecology there has been a steady increase in the number of papers published in the last few years. These applications include: imaging the uterus, uterine cavity, adnexa, and pelvic floor as well as reproductive medicine, such … Show more

“…There are fewer medical publications describing the study of ovarian tumors by 3D ultrasound with or without Doppler. [20][21][22][23][24][25][26][29][30][31] Nevertheless, it is unquestionable that the image quality and definition of structures are enormously superior with 3D ultrasonography.…”

“…Higher resolution optimisation for 3DUS will typically result in a slow sweep speed when acquiring the data set. 11 The acquisition of a 3DUS volume of data is simple and is outlined in Figure 2.…”

“…Another important ability of 3D-US is volume calculation even in irregularly shaped structures and with the 3D power Doppler angiography is possible evaluate 'real' vascularity of each organ and tissue with the reconstruction of the vascular tree (Figure 9, Figure 10 & Figure 12) that can be subjectively analyzed [61] but also, using dedicated software, evaluated by power Doppler-derived indices [62]. The most used indices are the vascularization index (VI), flow index (FI), and the vascularization-flow index (VFI).…”
