Here, a novel modular bidirectional high voltage gain soft-switching DC-DC converter is proposed. The proposed converter named gridded modular high-gain soft-switching DC-DC converter (GMHSC) can achieve wide range expansion of port voltage and voltage gain by gridded filling of modules and achieve voltage and current sharing among these modules. In addition, all semiconductor devices also realize full-load soft-switching operation in both power directions by introducing a simple auxiliary zero-current transaction (ZCT) cell in each module. A distributed control system including a centre controller and localized module controllers is proposed to improve the converter's design flexibility and dynamic performance. Moreover, the GMHSC is able to provide multiple fixed voltage nodes, which makes it suitable to expend to a multiport converter. A 1.6 kW 200 kHz experimental prototype based on SiC device is provided to achieve an efficiency of 97.9% and 97.7% in boost and buck modes, respectively. Furthermore, the input current and output voltage ripples are greatly reduced through interleaved operation of the GMHSC.

This paper proposes dual active bridge (DAB) based high frequency power electronic transformer (PET) for interconnecting medium voltage dc (MVDC) and low voltage dc (LVDC) grids for dc power distribution. The above proposed concept works on dual active phase shift principle and square wave HF modulation technique for bidirectional power transfer. Compared to the traditional dc transformer scheme, The proposed power electronic transformer (PET) can disconnect from LVDC distribution grid effectively as a dc breaker when a short circuit fault occurs in the distribution grid. The isolated DC-DC PET topology with a wide range of voltage conversion ratio is useful for High Voltage DC tapping. The DAB based on switched capacitor is connected to the medium voltage DC side and acts as an inverter. The proposed topology has the ability to transfer higher power, and lower circulating power, lower high frequency link voltage, and RMS current and peak values with the same transmission power in the MVDC side. This paper analyzes the topology, voltage and power characterization, control strategy in detail. Increase in the intermediate AC frequency will reduce the size of the transformer and other passive elements significantly in the circuit. The theoretical analysis is supported by MATLAB simulation.

This article deals with the modeling and control of a solid‐state transformer (SST) based on a dual active bridge (DAB) and modular multilevel converter (MMC) for integrating solar photovoltaic (SPV) and battery energy storage (BES) systems into the grid. SST uses DABs for bidirectional DC‐DC conversion and an MMC for DC‐AC conversion. A hybrid control method is developed in this study, which combines proportional‐integral (PI) controllers and model predictive control (MPC) to achieve the multiple objectives of the SST. The DABs' control system uses PI controllers for power extraction from the SPV system and to regulate the charging and discharging of the BES according to power generation and demand fluctuations. MPC is applied to control the active power injection, regulate the DC‐link and sub‐module capacitor voltages of the MMC. Moreover, the developed hybrid control method ensures reliable SST performance even under adverse conditions like grid voltage distortion, unbalance, and frequency variations. An energy management strategy is developed based on total power generation, reference active power injection, and the state of charge of the BES. This strategy ensures accurate reference power injection to the grid despite dynamic changes in operating conditions. The article also presents a detailed mathematical model of the DAB and MMC components, and the stability of the control algorithm is analyzed theoretically. The effectiveness of the SST and the proposed hybrid control scheme is demonstrated through MATLAB/Simulink simulations and hardware‐in‐the‐loop experimental results under various operating conditions.
