Three‐port DC–DC converter based on quadratic boost converter for stand‐alone PV/battery systems

Abstract: In this study, a three-port DC-DC converter is proposed based on quadratic boost converter. The proposed converter contains paths to enable the flow of power from input source to load and battery. Furthermore, it makes a path available to energise the load by the battery. The proposed converter has a bidirectional path using two additional switches and two diodes. Power flows from the input source and the battery to the load in a single-stage resulting in higher efficiency. The proposed converter has three swi… Show more

“…To improve performance of the sources from the point of view, energy storage (ES) should be utilized in conjunction with them. [2][3][4][5][6] Simultaneous use of renewable energy sources (RES) and ES requires two individual converters, which makes the system bulky and costly. According to the recent literatures, integration of RES and ES with noticeable advantages is possible by three-port converters (TPCs).…”

“…e converter requires a large number of power switches and imposes high voltage stress on the switches. A three-port DC-DC converter based on quadratic boost operation for stand-alone PV/battery systems is presented [19]. Recent research focuses on the modified converters because they are nonisolated (transformerless) topologies.…”

“…It produces the quadratic boost gain in discharge mode, whereas it gives quadratic buck gain in charging mode. In parallel, S Rostami et al 33 proposed a three‐port dc–dc converter with a quadratic boost voltage gain. This converter will explain the power flow from the input source to load and battery; due to the integration of quadratic boost converter and energy storage systems, it is very much suitable for stand‐alone PV systems.…”
