“…The phenomenon seemed to be caused by a protein which is present in normal persons, but is markedly increased in patients with thrombotic tendencies. Pascuzzi, et al (20) found the accelerating principle to be different from all known clotting factors and called it "thromboplastin generation accelerator." In malignancies and in postoperative states the evidence by means of a "retarded" thromboplastin generation test pointed indirectly to an increase in a factor indistinguishable from antihemophilic globulin.…”
