Throughput-Guaranteed Distributed Channel Assignment and Scheduling Algorithms with Low Complexity for Multichannel Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract: In wireless sensor networks, an improved throughput capacity region can be achieved by equipping multiple channels. However, such approach inevitably brings the issue of solving the coupled channel assignment and scheduling problem. This paper put forward a low-complexity distributed channel assignment and scheduling policy for multichannel wireless sensor networks with single-hop traffic flows, named LDCS, as well as its multihop multipath extension. Under the proposed algorithms, random access and backoff ti… Show more

“…In theory, one can compare the throughput performance of M-Scheduler with other existing comparable strategies. The MP algorithm proposed in [ 15 ] and the LDCS policy proposed in [ 21 ] are both suitable for multi-channel multi-interface network environments with multiple paths and are comparable to the M-Scheduler proposed in this paper. Through comparison, one can find that the efficiency ratio (represented by ER ) of the three schemes has a relationship of ER M-Scheduler > ER LDCS > ER MP .…”

“…Zhang et al employed the single-channel Q-SCHED scheduling idea to propose a novel distributed algorithm with low complexity (DA-LC) [ 19 , 20 ]. In addition, Xu et al proposed a low-complexity distributed channel allocation and scheduling strategy (LDCS) [ 21 ] in single-interface multi-channel WSNs. The implementation complexity of both DA-LC and LDCS is independent of the network size.…”

“…Zhang et al developed a Distributed Algorithm with Low Complexity (DA-LC) for a multi-channel multi-interface environment by using the idea of single-channel Q-SCHED policy [ 28 ]. Moreover, a Low-Complexity distributed Channel assignment and Scheduling (LDCS) policy using packet information exchange technology in multi-channel single-interface WSN was proposed in [ 29 ]. The implementation complexity of DA-LC or LDCS does not increase with the network size.…”

“…Advances in technology have led to difficulties with the use of a single sensor to meet the requirements of information diversification. For this reason, intelligent multisensor systems have attracted the attention of researchers [1][2][3]. Multisensor systems can be used to obtain different types of information, such as sound and images.…”
