Throughput Modeling and Validations for MIMO-OTA Testing With Arbitrary Multipath

Abstract: Abstract-A simple throughput model for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems has been proposed in the literature. The model takes the MIMO antenna effects into account and shows good agreement with measured throughputs in a reverberation chamber (RC). The RC emulates a multipath environment with isotropic incoming angular distribution and Rayleigh (or Rician) fading channel. In this work, we extend the throughput model to arbitrary multipath environments and verify it using (synthesized) multi-probe an… Show more

“…Note that B C is applicable to the case that the coherence bandwidth is defined as the bandwidth over which the complex correlation function has decreased from 1 to 0.5 [28]. It should be stressed that the OFDM technique can offer frequency diversity [2,29]. Hence, the intrinsic frequency stirring caused by the DUT must be taken into consideration when the OFDM technique is used in the downlink transmission (when the DUT is used as a receiver).…”

“…The application of wireless-Internet-of-Things (W-IOT) is currently being widely adopted in our daily lives. Consequently, over-the-air (OTA) tests of wireless devices have attracted considerable attention from both industry and academia [1][2][3][4][5][6]. The reverberation chamber (RC) is an electrically large conducting cavity with various mode-stirring mechanisms to create a random and statistically homogeneous environment [6][7][8].…”

“…While the MIMO throughput [25] has been chosen as the standard performance metric for LTE MIMO-OTA testing [26], performance metrics for mmWave OTA testing have not been standardized yet. Since the channel properties in the frequency (delay) and time (Doppler frequency) domains are solely determined by the CE, the spatial domain statistical properties, i.e., spatial correlation and PAS, are usually regarded as suitable performance metrics for evaluating the accuracy of the mmWave OTA testing.…”
