Thymol and Carvacrol: Phenolic Monoterpenes Extracted from the Essential Oil of Thymus vulgaris as Natural Antimicrobial Guests of Nanoporous Crystalline Syndiotactic Polystyrene Fibers

Abstract: Thymol and carvacrol, relevant natural antimicrobial molecules, induce co‐crystallization and, in absence of any mechanical stretching, also high degrees of axial orientation on s‐PS amorphous fibers. The release of thymol and carvacrol from s‐PS co‐crystalline fibers has been analyzed to realize long‐term antimicrobial fabrics. “…A fin de establecer comparaciones, primeramente, se obtuvieron los espectros de TOH y Carv puros (Figura 4.10-A y C respectivamente). Los mismos presentaron las contribuciones típicas descriptas en bibliografía para TOH y Carv [67,[157][158][159][160] correspondientes a: el estiramiento de los grupos -OH (3400-3000 cm -1 ), el estiramiento del doble enlace C=C (1600-1500 cm -1 ), la flexión de los grupos -OH (1458 y 1421 cm -1 ) y la flexión fuera del plano del C-H (1000-800 cm -1 ).
