Thyristor-based “phase hopping” frequency conversion technique

Abstract: This study proposes a new AC/AC "phase hopping" frequency conversion method based on the analyses of the disadvantages of the conventional cosine wave-crossing method. The advantages of this new method include no circulating current, no dead time, and an output frequency close to the power frequency. This study also introduces the basic principles of the "phase hopping" method and analyzes these principles combined with the voltage phase-changing comparison to that of the cosine wave-crossing method. The "phas… Show more

“…The basic idea and principle of ''phase-hopping'' AC-AC frequency conversion have been introduced in detail in the articles published before, and will not be repeated here [11]- [13]. On the basis of the previous research on the triple ''phasehopping'' AC-AC frequency conversion circuit, it is now expanded to a three-phase six-fold circuit.…”

“…Two sets of bridge rectifier circuits are connected in reverse parallel, the input threephase power is ABC, and the terminals of the output singlephase sine wave are P and O. Based on basic AC-AC frequency conversion theory, the "phase hopping" frequency conversion technology is adopted [13], [14], [15], and [16]. Equation ( 1) is the phase that decreases with the number of jumps M in a cycle of the output voltage.…”
