“…Hyperthyroidism (overactive) can cause difficulty sleeping due to arousals from nervousness or irritability ( 51 , 52 ). An overactive thyroid may also lead to night sweats and frequent urges to urinate, both of which can disrupt sleep ( 52 , 53 ). Similarly, studies showed hypothyroidism also linked with longer onset and shorter duration of sleep caused by difficulty of tolerating cold at night and joint or muscle pain ( 51 , 52 ).…”

“…At PO 1 month, the mean PSQI score reduced to 8.9, and further decreased to 7.8 at PO 4 months, before increasing again to 8.9 at PO 10 months. Our repeated measures of PSQI score data indicated that radioactive iodine treatment showed no harmful effect on sleep quality, although diet restriction and conditioning with severe hypothyroidism may have an unfavorable impact on sleep 39 , 40 .…”

“…This may occur as a consequence of impaired neural response to hypoxemia and hypercapnia, increased airway resistance due to mucoprotein deposition, increase in BMI, and changes in upper airway muscle activity ( 96 ). Conversely, over-replacement may favor insomnia, increase oxygen consumption, and impact on muscle and cardiovascular function as observed in hyperthyroidism ( 98 ). Therefore, optimizing thyroxine replacement therapy may contribute to improve sleep quality and architecture in patients with CP.…”
