The results are indicative of toxaphene-induced hyperactivity of the thyroid (Waritz et al 1996). In a 13-week feeding study with male and female Sprague-Dawley rats given toxaphene in the diet in concentrations of 0, 4, 20, 100 or 500 mg/kg diet (about 0, 0.4, 2, 10 and 50 mg/kg body weight), food consumption and body weight gains were not different from the control values in any of the dose groups.…”
