Abstract. In this paper, a new smooth slideshow transition effect, Sewing Photos, is proposed while considering both of smooth content transition and smooth camera motion. Comparing to the traditional photo browsing and displaying work, which all focused on presenting splendid visual effects, Sewing Photos emphasizes on the smooth transition process between photos while taking the photo contents into account. Unlike splendid visual effects, the smooth transition tends to provide more comfortable watching experience and are good for a long-term photo displaying. To smooth the content transition, the system finds the similar parts between the photos first, and then decides what kind of camera operations should be applied according to the corresponding regions. After that, a virtual camera path will be generated according to the extracted Region of Interests (ROIs). To make the camera motion smoother, the camera path is generated as a cubic interpolation spline.

Photo collections, mosaics, image triage, image editing, page layout, constraint satisfaction, user-centered designCreating an artifact that captures the story or memory from a large photo collection is a difficult task, because the tools available are either too difficult to learn, or oversimplified to the point that they lack flexibility. Individual techniques have been developed to automate parts of the selection-editing-composition cycle, but relatively little has been done to strike the right overall balance between the fully automatic and the fully manual. In this paper, we present miCollage, which attempts to piece together individual technologies to create a compelling collage authoring experience. The system consists of three main components. In the selection component, the system can make proactive suggestions about which photos to add to the collage as well as help the user to find similar or related photos. In the editing component, the system applies automatic cropping and enhancement to the images. In the layout component, the system suggests alternative layouts but is still able to accommodate manual changes, while satisfying various spatial constraints. The user interface connects the components seamlessly, allowing a best of both worlds between fully manual and fully automatic collage authoring. In this paper, we present a novel framework to customize multimedia messages for mobile users. The goal is to generate a video message from a series of pictures. The framework includes visual attention view detection, image grouping, image ranking, and slideshow generation. Considering the limitation of mobile device, we use a simple color feature based attention model to detect interesting regions of the images. We group the images, and rank them based on the attention view similarities. Finally a human perception based slideshow is designed to keep the mobile users' eye on attention regions efficiently. In addition, a short music is selected to match the video message. Extensive experiments and user studies show the promising performance of the proposed system.
