Time-Cost Relationship in Road and Highway Construction

Abstract: Time-Cost relationship has been found to be valid for different construction types by many researchers. The purpose of this study is to validate this relationship, based on a model developed by Bromilow et al., for highway construction in Florida. Along with time and cost factors, the modified model included contract types to determine whether this variable also has an effect on project duration. Data related to 235 roads and highways construction projects was obtained for the study. SPSS® program was used for… Show more

“…Therefore, two regression models were generated to predict the design and construction costs. The regression model was adopted to develop design and construction costs of rural transit facilities inspired by [47][48][49]. A straight-line regression model was generated for design cost and construction cost and is presented in Tables 7 and 8.…”

“…The UK is also found to have the issues of non-competent of procurers and poor management of risk during the procurement process (Uyarra et al , 2014). Many studies have also acknowledged that cost and time overruns are common issues in construction industries worldwide; both private and public (Aibinu and Jagboro, 2002; Choudhury and Rajan, 2003; Koushki et al , 2005). Zielina (2011) found that inefficiencies in procurement mainly occur due to hasty, careless and ill-considered preparation of tenders, poor documentations and lack of knowledge regarding legal provisions on public procurement.…”

“…Previous research on residential construction duration indicates that factors affecting residential building progress mostly derive from three aspects: project cost and type of workload involved, locational features, and team management and project scheduling. Project cost is recognized as the best indicator of construction duration (Bashford et al, 2005; Choudhury and Rajan, 2003; Stoy et al, 2007; Walker and Vines, 2000) as it reflects the project size and quality of the work (Qiao et al, 2019). Mačková and Bašková (2014) apply only project cost in the simple regression to estimate the construction duration.…”
