Time course of swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography findings after photodynamic therapy and aflibercept in eyes with age-related macular degeneration

Abstract: Purpose To report swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography (SS-OCTA) findings after full-fluence photodynamic therapy (PDT) and aflibercept intravitreal injection (IVA) for age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Methods Five eyes of five patients with AMD treated with PDT and IVA were include into the study. We retrospectively reviewed the data obtained from the five patients using SS-OCTA before and after treatment. Three eyes had type 1 choroidal neovasc… Show more

“…Previous OCT-A studies evaluating response of aflibercept in age-related macular degeneration have primarily been short-term [16][17][18][19][20], included B 5 patients [21] or been retrospective [22][23][24][25][26] in nature. In this long-term, prospective study, we used OCT-A to monitor and evaluate the response of CNVMs after treatment with IAI in 17 patients.…”

“…Central vision loss (CVL) secondary to maculopathies causes remarkable disturbance to quotidian visual tasks for the lowvision population. [1][2][3][4][5] Two decades ago, the majority of patients with bilateral maculopathy would ultimately suffer catastrophic vision loss until intravitreal anti-neovascularization drugs [6][7][8] and verteporfin with photodynamic therapy 9,10 were applied clinically, preventing the natural progression of the diseases. However, the reversal of CVL has not yet been achieved.…”
