As a new strategy to power forest wireless sensors in remote areas, an environmental microenergy collection device has been improved, and field experiments were carried out under natural conditions for the first time. The thermoelectric power generation devices used a gravity-assisted heat pipe to transmit heat from shallow soil to ground level, and a thermoelectric generator (TEG) was employed to generate electric power from the temperature difference between soil and air. Over the 6-month experimental period at two natural sites, approximately 128.74 J of energy could be harvested in a single day, and 5 209.92 J of energy could be harvested in a generation cycle. The results showed the feasibility of using this green energy to power wireless sensors in remote forests or other environments, This work is relevant to the current acute energy shortages and environmental pollution problems.

Passive sensing and computing system derived from the combination of environmental capacitive technology and sensing technology, such system obtains energy from the environment for sensing, computing, and wireless communication, has the advantages of energy self-supply, autonomous operation, long-term independent maintenance-free operation, and are the future development trends of Internet of Things technology. But at present, the passive system obtains energy from a single source and the conversion efficiency is low. At present, there are no low-power devices and hardware architectures designed for passive systems, resulting in computing, sensing, and communication power consumption exceeding the capability limit. Therefore, the core problem that restricts the development and application of passive systems is “limited energy”, which further leads to the problems of “short communication distance”, “poor perception” and “inefficient computation”. This paper intends to systematically study the problem of “limited energy”, starting from three aspects of “energy collection”, “energy management” and “energy utilization”, and proposes that “multi-energy source compound energy collection” is energy “open source”, “energy management based on load task model and energy model matching” and “adaptive load task execution planning” is energy “throttling”. This paper provides a comprehensive and systematic solution and research idea for solving the “energy-limited” problem of passive sensing and computing systems and provides strong support for the maturity and application of passive system technology.

Summary In this paper, a new extendable high step‐up multi‐input‐single‐output dc‐dc converter is presented. The proposed converter is composed based on the conventional boost converter and conventional buck‐boost converter. The benefits of the proposed converter consist of the simple control of each duty cycle and low‐voltage stress across the semiconductors. Therefore, conduction losses can be reduced by using the switch with lower resistance rDS(on). The presented converter is flexible to obtain the high power level with the proper selection of duty cycle values. Therefore, the presented converter is controllable in different power levels of input sides. In fact, the proposed converter supports the operation of multiple input sources without any changes in the structure of the topology. The dynamic modeling and efficient multivariable controller design with dynamic responses for the proposed converter are analyzed completely. To confirm the performance of the presented converter, mathematical analysis and simulation results are presented. In addition, the comparison between the presented converter and some other topologies is provided. In order to illustrate the efficient operation of the presented converter, a laboratory prototype for a 425 V/300 W with 40‐ and 45‐V input voltages and 95.62% efficiency is implemented.
