Time Domain Modeling of Propeller Forces due to Ventilation in Static and Dynamic Conditions

Abstract: This paper presents experimental and theoretical studies on the dynamic effect on the propeller loading due to ventilation by using a simulation model that generates a time domain solution for propeller forces in varying operational conditions. For ventilation modeling, the simulation model applies a formula based on the idea that the change in lift coefficient due to ventilation computes the change in the thrust coefficient. It is discussed how dynamic effects, like hysteresis effects and blade frequency dyna… Show more

“…At the end of the evaluation, functions with an F pi of 10.0 or higher were F15, F18, F19, F21, and F27, which were then used to evaluate the cause of the accident. For example, when the accident occurred, the ability to maneuver Function 15 was insufficient [34]. Function 15, the controller of the accident, was related to the master of the ship and was applied from the instant the ship departed from China until the collision.…”

“…For a high advance number, neglecting other effects is reasonable, otherwise the effect of ventilation can be much more severe than the emerged portion of the propeller. This is examined and discussed in [14] and [19]. Since the advance number is relatively high in this study, only the emerged portion of the propeller is included in our analysis.…”

“…The next symposium in this series will be held in China in May 2021. This Special Issue comprises 17 excellent papers originating from the symposium [1-17] and two outstanding new papers [18,19]. The papers disseminate state-of-the-art numerical and experimental research results on marine propulsors and marine renewable devices.Marine propulsors are key components of the many thousands of ships operating in oceans, lakes, and rivers around the world.…”
