Timelike structures of ten-dimensional supersymmetry

Abstract: In several contexts, supersymmetry can be reformulated in terms of calibrations, namely forms whose integrals measure minimal energies. It has been conjectured that this should be possible in general. For type II supergravity, we present a new system of equations which realizes this expectation. Besides the customary D-brane calibrations, it also includes NS5-brane and KK5-monopole calibrations. It is equivalent to supersymmetry under the assumption that the Killing vector associated to supersymmetry is timeli… Show more

“…The bi-linears for AdS 2 can be derived in general from the Killing spinor equation (2.6), indeed this was already done in [24] so we will be brief and refer the reader to that reference for further details. We parametrise warped AdS 2 as the Poincare patch e 2A ds 2 (AdS 2 ) = −(e 0 ) 2 + (e r ) 2 , e 0 = e A rdt, e r = e A dr r , (2.15) with ds 2 (AdS 2 ) of unit radius, and take the real basis of flat space gamma matrices σ µ for µ = 0, 1 with σ i the Pauli matrices and where σ 0 = iσ 2 .…”

“…When these are present, the derivation is still completely valid away from their loci, but at these specific points we must solve some additional constraints. Namely that the source corrected Bianchi identities hold and that the sources have a supersymmetric embedding -ie they must be calibrated [50,51]. We shall come back to this issue in section 5.…”

“…The holographic central charge for a warped AdS 3 solution in 10 dimensions at leading order is given for instance in [20], converting this reference to string frame and setting α = g s = µ = 1 gives with α the continuous parameter of d(2, 1, α). This all sounds very positive, however to be sure this solution really exists, and preserves supersymmetry, we need to check the Bianchi identities at the D8 brane defect are satisfied and that the D8 brane is calibrated [42][43][44]. The Bianchi identities in the presence of the defect require…”
