Biodiversitas 24: 486-491. White-rumped Shama bird, which Indonesian bird lovers call the Murai Batu bird (Copsychus malabaricus), has been a favorite bird for almost a decade. This bird is well-known among bird keepers for its colors and male singing voices. Generally, we recognize some biological behaviors that are trusted as avian behaviors. However, some specific behaviors in wild and domesticated birds are still not detected and unclear. The objective of this study was to validate and analyze the scientific evidence, frequency, and duration of cloaca display appearance as indicators of the female White-rumped Shama birds breeding behavior during the matchmaking phase. By animal focal sampling method, 18 sexually mature females of local White-rumped Shama captivated and observed by the research peer team were observed intensively for cloaca display activity during 22 days of matchmaking observation duration. Those 18 female samples were treated for matchmaking with another 8 males. For the cloaca display frequency and duration parameter, a time sampling method was used by dividing a total of 6 hours of daily behavior observation into 3 hours of observation duration, 2 times a day with 6 hours of distance between one observation and to next observation. Daily behavior observation conducted between 06.00 am to 09.00 am continued from 03.00 pm to 06.00 pm. Cloaca display frequency was counted as how often a female shows a cloaca exposure to her male matchmaking partner during the daily observation period. Then, a cloaca display duration was measured in the unit of seconds for each cloaca display behavior confirmed. Seventeen (17) female White-rumped Shama birds (94% samples) exhibited motion of cloaca display, with 21 motions of cloaca display behaviors confirmed. The earliest cloaca display behavior was confirmed on day 15 after matchmaking began, and the latest behavior was confirmed on day 22 after matchmaking began. These behaviors were seen on average of day 18.9±2.256 after matchmaking began. The shortest duration of cloaca display behavior lasted for 1.62 seconds, and the longest lasted for 6.26 seconds, with an average duration of 4.37 seconds for each motion. The average daily confirmed cloaca display frequency among that female White-rumped Shama was 0.053 times in 22 days of matchmaking observation duration. Cloaca display motion is seen daily (21 days) during 22 days of observation conducted, and the relative frequency percentage of cloaca display behavior was 95.45%. There is no proven info about the breeding behavior of this bird, and based on our scientific results, we strongly believe cloaca display motion can be validated as the main indicator of Indonesia's local female White-rumped Shama birds' breeding behavior. It can be read from the relative frequency percentage of cloaca display motion of female White-rumped Shama, which is overtopped 95% or dominant motion in its breeding behavior.

ABSTRAK. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis karakteristik suara kokok ayam Burgo di Kota Bengkulu. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Kelurahan Pagar Dewa, Kecamatan Slebar, Kota Bengkulu. Sampel dipilih dengan purposive sampling dengan kriteria 10 ekor ayam Burgo jantan umur 6 bulan ke atas. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah handphone android, perekam suara dan Software Cool Edit-Pro. Variabel yang diamati meliputi jumlah suara kokok, durasi kokok dan frekuensi kokok. Data yang terkumpul ditabulasi dan dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa jumlah kokok ayam Burgo di Kota Bengkulu pada pagi hari (05.00-07.00 WIB) sebanyak 120 kali, siang hari (11.00-13.00 WIB) sebanyak 50 kali, dan pada sore hari (15.00–17.00 WIB) adalah 57 kali. Durasi kokok ayam Burgo adalah 1,51 detik pada pagi hari, 1,86 detik pada siang hari, dan 1,61 detik pada sore hari. Frekuensi kokok ayam jantan Burgo peliharaan di Kota Bengkulu adalah 19,03 kali/10 menit. Disimpulkan bahwa puncak aktivitas waktu berkokok ayam Burgo jantan di Kota Bengkulu terjadi di pagi hari (05.00–07.00 WIB) dengan rata-rata 1,51 detik dengan durasi terpanjang selama 1,86 detik dan rata-rata frekuensi 120,9 kali. Rata-rata frekuensi kokok ayam Burgo secara keseluruhan mencapai 19,03 kali/10 menit.Kata Kunci: Ayam jantan burgo, karakteristik suara kokok. Crowing Characteristic of Bengkulu’s Burgo RoosterABSTRACT. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of the crowing of the Burgo chicken in Bengkulu City. The research was conducted at Pagar Dewa Village, Slebar District, Bengkulu City. The samples selected using purposive sampling with the criteria of 10 Burgo chickens aged 6 months and over. The instruments used are android handphone, voice recorders and cool edit-pro software. The variables observed included the crowing number, crowing duration and crowing frequency. The data collected were tabulated and analyzed descriptively. The result showed that the crowing number of the Burgo roosters in Bengkulu City in the morning (05.00-07.00 a.m) was 120 times, noon (11.00 a.m-01.00 p.m) was 50 times, and in the afternoon (03.00 - 05.00 p.m) was 57 times. The crowing durations of the Burgo rooster were 1.51 seconds in the morning, 1.86 seconds in the noon and 1.61 seconds in the afternoon. The crowing frequency of domesticated Burgo rooster in Bengkulu City was 19,03 times/10 minutes. It can be concluded that the crowing peak of the Burgo rooster in Bengkulu City occurred in the morning (05.00 – 07.00 a.m) with an averge of 1, 51seconds and the longest duration was 1.86 seconds per crowing with the average frequency of 120,9 times per crowing and the total average frequency of the crowing was 19 times/10 minutes.

Burung merak merupakan salah satu burung yang memiliki bulu tercantik karena memiliki bulu penutup ekor yang sangat indah menjadi daya tariknya tersendiri. Bulu penutup ekor hanya dimiliki oleh burung merak jantan dan tidak dimiliki oleh burung merak betina. Bulu penutup ekor digunakan sebagai salah satu daya tarik merak jantan untuk menarik perhatian burung betina. Tujuan dilakukannya mini project ini yaitu untuk mengetahui perilaku aktivitas Burung Merak Hijau (Pavo muticus). Pada pengamatan ini menggunakan jenis penilitian Deskriptif bersifat eksploratif dengan menggambarkan suatu keadaan objek penelitian atau pengamatan perilaku harian pada Burung Merak Hijau (Pavo muticus) di Bontomarannu Education Park secara langsung. Berdasarkan hasil pengamatan yang telah dilakukan maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa perilaku aktivitas harian Burung Merak Hijau (Pavo muticus) terdiri dari perilaku makan, perilaku mengepak sayap, perilaku berjemur, perilaku sosial dan perilaku istirahat.
