Tinnitus nach Ansthesie

Abstract: Possible connections between different forms of anaesthesia and the occurrence of tinnitus or increasing levels of tinnitus are described. After general anaesthesia no increase in the occurrence or level of tinnitus is to be expected, but there exists a very rare, but specific form of low frequency tinnitus combined with low frequency sensory hearing loss following spinal anaesthesia. Reversible tinnitus and hearing disorders following local anaesthesia normally occur in cases of central nervous system toxicit… Show more

“…In humans, general anesthesia is not considered to produce transient tinnitus (Schaaf, Kampe, & Hesse, 2004), possibly because, as the results here suggest, most individuals will not experience it, and it will be gone within 24 h in those that do. With regard to animal research, this finding has several implications.…”

“…Sensorineural hearing loss and tinnitus have been reported after general and spinal anesthesia. [5][6][7] The incidence of auditory complaints may vary depending on the diameter of the spinal needle used, whether it is sharp or pencil-point, and the amount of CSF leak. The use of a sharp-tipped spinal needle increases post-dural puncture headaches as well as auditory complications after spinal anesthesia.…”

“…Tinnitus combined with SNHL following either general or spinal anesthesia has been documented [ 1 3 ]. Hearing loss usually is minor and transient, but it can be permanent and disabling, particularly when associated with vertigo and tinnitus [ 3 ].…”

“…Postoperative sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) following nonotologic surgery is rare and often detected only by audiometric evaluation [ 1 3 ]. This phenomenon has been reported following spinal anesthesia or lumbar puncture and can be unilateral or bilateral, typically affecting the low frequency range.…”
