Tissue factor and tissue factor pathway inhibitor in women with a past history of preeclampsia

Abstract: f Preeclampsia (P-EC) is a multisystem disorder of pregnancy whose cause and pathogenesis remain poorly understood. However, abnormal haemostasis and endothelial dysfunction are thought to be implicated. Women with a past medical history of P-EC have a baseline hypercoagulable state postpregnancy. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between tissue factor (TF) and TF pathway inhibitor (TFPI) in women who have had P-EC within the last 3 years (more than 6 months postpartum) and their normal coun… Show more

“…In the clinical treatment of AF by PVI, the inhibition of PS + blood cells and MPs may bean an effective method in the prevention of hypercoagulable states. TF on blood cells and MPs has also been suggested to be associated with increased PCA during PVI ( 29 ). In the present study, TF + leukocytes were significantly increased at 1 h post-PVI, and anti-TF treatment significantly prolonged the coagulation time of the blood cells and MPs.…”

“…62 Tissue factor is primarily associated with the inflammatory coagulation process, however, there is limited research suggesting a potential link between increased TF and preeclampsia. 63 The upregulated expression of TF is associated with hypercoagulability, which is typically found in the elderly population. 64 Its aberrant expression is also associated with inflammation 65,66 and atherosclerosis, thus suggesting that it is an important determinant in plaque formation and cardiovascular disease risk.…”

“…Vascular changes are prominent features of P-EC [25]. Indeed, both cardiovascular disease and P-EC share many risk factors [9].…”

“…Previously we investigated the relationship between TF and TFPI in women who had P-EC compared to their normal counterpart and reported a significant increase in TF/TFPI ratio in women with P-EC [9]. Our result suggested an imbalance between TF/TFPI levels in women with past history of P-EC post-pregnancy and we proposed that such imbalance may contribute to the development of a maternal hypercoagulable states and may predispose women with a history of P-EC to cardiovascular risks later in life [9].…”
