Tissue Glue in Laparoscopic Inguinal Hernia Repair: A Retrospective Comparative Analysis

Abstract: During the last two decades, there have been two revolutions in inguinal hernia repair surgery. First, the introduction of tension-free hernia repair by Liechtenstein in 1989 and then the application of laparoscopic surgery to the treatment of inguinal hernia in the early 1990s. In this context, the choice of mesh fixation methods being an integral part of this procedure remains a topic of arguments and discussions in laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair. There exist many methods of mesh fixation like polyglact… Show more

“…When the lacunar ligament is opened, this vascular branch behind the lacunar ligament, which passes over Cooper's ligament, causes an anastomosis between the obturator and external iliac or inferior epigastric vascular system, and staples or tacks placed over Cooper's ligament can lead to life-threatening hemorrhaging, particularly during femoral hernia repair. The trapezoid of disaster is formed by the conjunction of the medially placed "triangle of Doom" and the laterally placed "triangle of pain" (Mahanta and Mishra, 2010) (Figs. 1A and B).…”
