Tissue response to implanted ceramic‐coated titanium alloys in rats

Abstract: In order to assess the tissue compatibility of the hybrid materials for the dental implant (hydroxyapatite, titanium oxide and titanium nitride coated titanium alloys), tissue response to these materials implanted in the rat subcutaneous tissue was histologically examined. “…Table 2 demonstrates the duration of implantation, the animal model used, and BIC for Ti and TiN-coated materials from several in vivo studies. In yet another in vivo study in rats, the thickness of fibrous connective tissue around Ti-6Al-4V implants was found to be the same whether it was coated with TiO 2 or TiN [10]. Based on the above studies, it can be concluded that the TiN coating demonstrates a good biological response and does not negatively affect osseointegration and healing around Ti implants.…”
