Titanium Hydrazides Supported by Diamide-Amine and Related Ligands: A Combined Experimental and DFT Study

Abstract: This paper reports a general method for the synthesis of new terminal titanium diphenyl hydrazido(2−) complexes containing dianionic N3- and N4-donor ligands, along with new hydrazido synthons. Reaction of Ti(NtBu)Cl2(py)3 or Ti(NtBu)Cl2(py′)3 (py′ = 4-NC5H4 tBu) with Ph2NNH2 gave excellent yields of the corresponding monomeric hydrazides Ti(NNPh2)Cl2(L)3 (L = py (7) or py′), which have been structurally characterized. Application of a dynamic vacuum to 7 formed [Ti(NNPh2)Cl2(py)2]2 (4). Both 4 and 7 are entry… Show more

“…Shorter Ti–N distances have been reported in some instances, attributable to NR 3 + groups on the imido moiety. 7478 Complex 5 crystallizes in space group monoclinic I 2/ a , and the molecule lies along a two-fold axis. Consequently, this two-fold axis in turn causes disorder in the i Pr groups of the phosphonyl group.…”

“…Reaction of the terminal hydrazide Ti(N 2 N py )(NNPh 2 )-(py) 20 22 Like 2, compound 4 is unstable in solution (t 1/2 ca. 4 h at 22 1C) but no single product could be isolated.…”

“…66 ; similar complexes were reported using dianionic N 4 or O 2 N 2 donor ligands. 67 [Cp*Ti(NP t Bu 3 )Me] [B(C 6 F 5 ) 4 ] reacts with 3,3-dimethyl-1-butene (neohexene) to generate a cation formed by insertion of two neohexenes into the Ti-CH 3 bond, [Cp*Ti(NP t Bu 3 ){CH 2 CH( t Bu)CHQCH t Bu}] + . It catalyses the dimerisation of neohexene to (E)-2,2,5,6,6-pentamethylhept-3-ene.…”
