tmRNA abundance inStreptomyces aureofaciens, S. griseus andS. collinus under stress-inducing conditions

Abstract: tmRNA and protein SmpB are the main components required for rescue of stalled ribosomes incapable of properly elongating or terminating the polypeptide chain. We examined the tmRNA level and protein synthesis in Streptomyces aureofaciens, S. griseus and S. collinus synthesizing tetracycline, streptomycin and kirromycin, respectively, during various stress conditions. Downshift in temperature caused a decrease in protein synthesis but the level of tmRNA increased. Shift up in temperature induced decay of tmRNA … Show more

“…205,209 By controlling these genes, tmRNA plays an important role in stress control, and indeed mutants in ssrA (encoding tmRNA) are highly sensitive to exposure to antibiotics. [209][210][211] As the tmRNA system is required for production of DasR, it possibly has a role in regulating its cellular abundance and, in turn, antibiotic production.…”

“…Consistently, the total amount of trans -translation products increases under stressful conditions (Fujihara et al, 2002). Perhaps in response to the increased requirement of the trans -translation system, the intracellular level of tmRNA or SmpB increases with an increase in stress in some bacteria (Muto et al, 2000; Palecková et al, 2007; Rezzonico et al, 2007). …”

“…Confirmation of the expected employment of small RNAs in the regulation of cell processes, including primary metabolism, developmental transitions, antibiotic production, and various stress responses is being increasingly reported (Palecková et al, 2007 ; Pánek et al, 2008 ; Swiercz et al, 2008 ; D'Alia et al, 2010 ; Mikulík et al, 2014 ). Hundreds of cis- acting asRNAs were identified using RNA sequencing in two recent studies (Vockenhuber et al, 2011 ; Moody et al, 2013 ).…”
