To compare the analgesic efficacy of two different doses of epidural ketamine in chronic low back-pain patients: A randomised double-blind study

Abstract: Background and Aims: Ketamine, an adjunct to epidural steroid injections (ESI) for chronic back-pain provides better quality and prolonged duration of analgesia. The present study aims to evaluate the analgesic efficacy in terms of pain scores, duration of pain-free period, patient satisfaction score (PSS) and number of repeat injections with 25 mg versus 50 mg ketamine as adjuvants to ESI. Methods: In a prospective, randomised, double-blind trial at a tertiary care hos… Show more

“…Four topical treatments for chronic anal fissures were tested and were effective in reducing pain in these patients for up to 2 months of daily application, particularly diltiazem 93,94 , minoxidil 94,95 , glyceryl trinitrate 95 , and Levorag 96 -and adverse effects include mostly itching right after application, which usually subsides. The local administration of different analgesics has been tested for pain control, with minimal side effects -intra-articular lidocaine in osteoarthritis 97 and intramuscular for myofascial pain syndrome patients 98 , intra-articular capsaicin in patients with osteoarthritis 99 , and intradiscal ketamine 100 and transforaminal ropivacaine 46 in patients with low back pain. While most of these treatments are associated with pain in the location site, capsaicin intra-articular administration also caused significant arthralgia.…”
