“…Our study focused not on assessing knowledge (a necessary but not sufficient factor predicting behavior change) but on assessing self-efficacy for counseling, which in our prior research has been shown to be a primary predictor of the number of patients counseled in practice. 26 The American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy 2004 Center for the Advancement of Pharmaceutical Education (CAPE) Education Outcomes specified the importance of training doctor of pharmacy students to promote disease prevention, 27 indicating a need for students to understand tobacco dependence and treatment. Availability of this course, which won the Purdue University Award for Excellence in Distance Learning in 2007, provided pharmacy faculty with an additional resource for achieving the targeted CAPE outcomes.…”
