Abstract:Restoration of the intestinal epithelial barrier is crucial for achieving mucosal healing, the therapeutic goal for inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). During homeostasis, epithelial renewal is maintained by crypt stem cells and progenitors that cease to divide as they differentiate into mature colonocytes.
