-The presence of weeds in commercial fields of cabbage may interfere directly and indirectly on yield and on the quality of the commercial product. Therefore, the satisfactory production depends on a successful control of weeds. Because of the limited availability of herbicides registered in Brazil for cabbage crop in addition to the lack of information in the literature, the objective of this work was to evaluate the selectivity of herbicides to cabbage. The herbicides S-metolachlor (1,740 and 768 g ha ) mixture applied after transplant. The experiment was developed in the field, in a randomized block design with four replications. Weed control and cabbage crop injury were evaluated as well as the number of productive and suppressed cabbage plants, the average fresh mass of heads and yield. All herbicide treatments controlled weeds in the area satisfactorily; however, most of them caused high toxicity in plants with the exception of oxyfluorfen, applied before transplant, and flumioxazin and S-metolachlor, applied after transplant, which caused little leaf injury in plants. Oxyfluorfen applied before and after transplant and S-metolachlor, applied after transplant did not affect the number of productive and suppressed plants nor yield, being selective in cabbage.Keywords: herbicides tolerance, weed management, yield. El brócoli (Brassica oleracea var. Itálica) es una hortaliza que aporta vitaminas y elementos esenciales a la dieta humana, así como compuestos antioxidantes que mejoran la salud. Este cultivo puede ser alternativo en regiones productoras de aguacate (Persea americana), en donde las condiciones climáticas podrían ser adecuadas para el brócoli. Sin embargo se desconoce su comportamiento productivo, las variedades y dosis de fertilización nitrogenada más apropiados. El objetivo del presente estudio fue determinar la respuesta productiva y rentabilidad económica de las variedades de brócoli Monte Carlo y Green Magic con las dosis de 0, 60 y 120 kg N ha-1 (N0, N60 y N120, respectivamente) en Uruapan, Michoacán, durante 2016. El ensayo se estableció en condiciones de campo a cielo abierto y con riego rodado, mediante un diseño de bloques al azar con cuatro repeticiones. Los resultados indican que Green Magic fue más productiva y mostró mayor respuesta (P ≤ 0.05) a la fertilización nitrogenada que Monte Carlo. Green Magic con N120 logró el máximo rendimiento, 14.1 t ha-1 y la más alta rentabilidad, $35,413.20 MXN. Monte Carlo con N0 y N60 y Green Magic con N0 no fueron económicamente rentables pues presentaron pérdidas económicas de hasta $-48,714.2 MXN. Por lo tanto, la variedad Green Magic fertilizada con N120 es una opción de cultivo en Uruapan, Michoacán.

The aim of this work was to compare the dynamics of the degradation of herbicides commonly used in brassica vegetables. Series of plot field experiments were carried out in planting cauliflower in 2012–2014. The amount of herbicide residues with the maximum residue level (MRL) determined by the Regulation (EC) No. 396/2005 and with requirements of non-residue production (up to 10 µg/kg of active ingredient in harvested product) was compared. Napropamide, clomazone and dimethachlor were applied before planting and pendimethalin, S-metolachlor, pyridate, ethametsulfuron, dimethenamid, metazachlor, quinmerac, picloram, clopyralid, cycloxydim, fluazifop, propaquizafop and quizalofop were applied after planting the cauliflower. Besides fluazifop and quizalofop, all tested herbicides showed a fast degradation and can be recommended for non-residue production. The amount of fluazifop residues did not fall below the MRL even 6 weeks after application. Residues of post-emergently applied quizalofop were detected in cauliflower 10–44 days after application in most of the samples at concentration 9–73 µg/kg(below the MRL).
