Tool for assessing health and equity impacts of interventions modifying air quality in urban environments

Abstract: The tool represents a practical first step to assessing AP-related interventions for health and equity impacts. Understanding how different factors affect health and equity through air pollution can provide insight to city policymakers pursuing Health in All Policies.

“…Indeed, future work could consider an additive effect modification between status of race/ethnicity and each of the predictors considered in this study. For example, the environmental justice literature reports that at least two distinct types of disparities exist ( Forastiere et al 2007 , Cartier et al 2015 , Hajat et al 2015 ): differential exposure (which was considered in the present study) and differential susceptibility or effect modification (which was not captured in the decomposition procedure). Such effect modification by race/ethnicity could also contribute to the residual unexplained disparity.…”

“…Evaluation plan for the JHS Community Outreach Center. In order to measure success in meeting project objectives and intended outcomes, and to facilitate the assessment of intervention impacts, 7 the CORC developed an evaluation framework or model that incorporated lessons learned from 15 years of experience in developing recruitment, retention, health education, and health promotion strategies and activities for the Jackson Heart Study community and its 5301 cohort. 4 Th e CORC elements that are evaluated include Community Health Advisors activities, activities involving the JHS community partners, and JHS events requiring community/ participants involvement.…”

“…. Air pollution is mostly addressed by national projects focusing mostly to tackle the health effects of ultrafine particles and air pollution due to combustion of fossil fuels [35]. On the other hand, most atmospheric models used in air quality management don't have a userfriendly interface that can synthesize the model results produced from different air pollutant emission inputs, and do not offer adequate data visualization for supporting policy making.…”
