Tooth mobility and periodontal therapy

Abstract: Data collected as part of an 8-year longitudinal study on periodontal therapy involving 82 patients and 1974 teeth were analyzed to determine if tooth mobility influenced the result of treatment. For each patient, pocket depth, attachment level and tooth mobility were scored clinically at the initial appointment, and once a year for 8 years following periodontal therapy. The treatment consisted of scaling, oral hygiene instruction, occlusal adjustment, periodontal surgery (curettage, modified Widman or pocket … Show more

“…With improvements in the periodontal situation, either functionally or by treatment, reduced mobility results [3,4,8,11,17,21,24,30]. In this respect, a reduction in CPAL could be considered an improvement in tooth placement that results in a reduced mobility and PPD (Fig.…”

“…However, there is only scant knowledge concerning the influence of splinting of periodontally compromised teeth on the healing of periodontal defects after using reconstructive surgical approaches such as BRG, GTR, or debridement alone. The relevant literature has not addressed this aspect [4,6,9,25,30].…”

“…An antibiotic must penetrate Teeth with greater mobility present less favorable changes after periodontal treatment than firmer teeth. 122 Occlusal adjustment has also been shown to reduce tooth mobility. 123 Furthermore, periodontal treatment in conjunction with occlusal adjustment tends to result in a slightly more favorable attachment level gain than treatment without occlusal adjustment.…”
