Topics and methods in economics, finance, and business journals: A content analysis enquiry

Abstract: This study analyzes the abstracts and titles of 33,454 business finance, economics, management, and business articles published in ISI (frequently cited) journals during 2013–14. The sample represents 46.4 percent of all papers published in ISI journals in those years, and 52.7 percent of the articles published in the selected categories. The journals were ranked in four Q categories according to their impact factors. The analysis revealed that some topics persisted in all Q groups, but others gained frequency… Show more

“…The techniques were advised by Walker & Harland (2008), who stated that a simple case could be elaborated to be valuable research with certain conditions met. The standing was getting much attention from Mihas (2023), Camargo et al (2018), Ziegler (2021), and Laudien et al (2023). Experts must measure the preliminary information and data as we collaborated with them by enactment the expert judgment to be raised to the forum of the analytical hierarchy process (AHP).…”

“…It was not the intention of this research project to identify or suggest journal topics that could or should be added to the CBAR, as Cafferky (2017) provided for the JBIB after 10 years of publication. Such a project would likely require a different technique, such as bigram analysis (Camargo et al, 2018) or heat mapping of network analysis (Cho et al, 2017) and delving into the content of each article. As stated in the introduction, the identity and values stated by a journal should directly correlate to the actual content of the journal, so it is important to continuously affirm and/or reevaluate identity and values to ensure continuity within publications.…”

“…Equation ( 2) implies that z i is a sufficient statistic for y i because the outcome variables are considered independent of the text counts conditioned on the projection z i [23]. This SR score can be interpreted as the average factor loading or contribution of document i [24], a variable similar to the Altman's z score, which indicates the credit quality of a company [25]. Using Equation ( 1), the factor loading can be estimated using fat-tailed and sparsity-inducing independent Laplace priors for each coefficient φ j [22].…”
