Topographic growth of the Jishi Shan and its impact on basin and hydrology evolution, NE Tibetan Plateau

Abstract: Previous research demonstrates that large basins on the periphery of the northern edge of the Tibetan Plateau were partitioned during development of intrabasin mountain ranges. These topographic barriers segregated basins with respect to surface flow and atmospheric circulation, ponded sediments, and formed rain shadows. However, complex mixing between airmasses and nonsystematic isotope-elevation lapse rates have hampered application of quantitative paleoaltimetry to determine the timing of development of cri… Show more

“…In other words, similar samples (as measured by the test statistic) will plot near each other in 2 (or 3 or greater) dimensional space. We present an MDS map (Figure ) generated with DZmds v1.1.1 (Saylor et al, ), using our KDE curves and the KS test D value as a measure of similarity; maps created with other comparative metrics produce similar results.…”

“…Due to data dispersion related to age inheritance and Pb loss, we applied a more restrictive 2% discordance filter for the calculations of weighted mean ages of igneous samples 01MCO and 05MCO. The stacked U–Pb probability density and kernel density estimate plots, multidimensional scaling analyses, and mixing models were created using DZStats, DZmds, and DZMix (Saylor et al, ; Saylor & Sundell, ; Sundell & Saylor, ). When relevant, we present MDA constraints using either the youngest concordant grain, peak age (detrital mode), and weighted means (Dickinson & Gehrels, ), recognizing concerns regarding application of weighted means (Spencer et al, ).…”

“…Multi‐dimensional scaling (MDS) has become a popular approach for visual assessment of the degree of similarity and dissimilarity between detrital geochronologic samples (Saylor et al., ; Vermeesch, ). MDS plots for samples or sample groups can be created in detritalPy using the sklearn library with the option for either metric or non‐metric MDS (Figure ).…”

“…Following Vermeesch () and Saylor et al. (), MDS calculations can be based on the maximum separation between cumulative distribution functions (CDF) (Kolgomorov–Smirnov D max ) or the sum of the maximum differences between two CDFs (i.e. CDF 1 ‐CDF 2 and CDF 2 ‐CDF 1 ; Kupier V max ).…”
