Topographic patterns of retinal lesions in multiple evanescent white dot syndrome

Abstract: Purpose To demonstrate different topographic distributions of multiple-evanescent white dot syndrome (MEWDS) and secondary MEWDS disease and to describe possible associations. Methods Clinical evaluation and multimodal retinal imaging in 27 subjects with MEWDS (29 discrete episodes of MEWDS). Ophthalmic assessment included best-corrected visual acuity testing and multimodal retinal imaging with OCT, blue-light autofluorescence, fluorescein and indocyanine … Show more

“…Multimodal imaging is often essential in confirming the diagnosis of multiple evanescent white dot syndrome (MEWDS). Fundus autofluorescence (FAF) imaging appears to be particularly sensitive in detecting MEWDS lesions and may best be used to illustrate the extent and topographic distribution of MEWDS lesions [ 1 ]. Non-invasive ultra-widefield FAF imaging enables safe and quick repeat imaging, often does not require pupil dilation, and avoids the potential risks associated with angiography.…”
