Torque Strength and Influencing Factors Analysis for Assembled Camshaft by Knurling Joining

Abstract: A key functional aspect of assembled camshafts is the joining strength between the shaft tube and the cam lobe, which is depended on the assembly or joining method. The assembly process by knurling joining and torque deformation of assembled camshaft were numerically studied and the key influencing factors on the press fit load and joining strength were analyzed. The experiments including to the press fit and torque strength of lobe/tube joining were carried out.The results show that the torque strength of the… Show more

“…Lätzer et al [84] and Qiao et al [122] developed knurled interference fits consisting of a shape profile that improved the performance compared to conventional interference fits. Liewald et al [92] utilised lateral extrusion of a shaft to a hardened, thin-walled hub to manufacture a combined complex shaft-flange component.…”

“…Furthermore, by assuming the external force and torque of the cam when the camshaft was in service, they simulated and analysed the fatigue coefficient of the camshaft during service, reflecting the connection strength. Qiao et al 26 developed a simulation analysis of the assembly process of the knurled assembly camshaft and analysed the equivalent stress at different torsion moments. Moreover, they tested the static torsional strength and found the camshaft used the torque value as the static torsional strength when an angular displacement (an accuracy of 0.7°) occurred between the cam and the mandrel.…”
