Total Phenolic Content, Antioxidant, Cytotoxicity and Hepatoprotective Activities of Aqueous Extract of Channa striatus (Haruan)

Abstract: Antioxidant has been the important approaches to reduce the development of cancer disease and playa role as a protective against liver toxicity. Channastriatus (haruan) (0, 0.00001, 0.0001, 0.001, 0.01, 0.1, 1, and 10 mg/ml) -diphenyl-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay, azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid (ABTS) and ferric reducing ability of power (FRAP). For cell viability assay, HepG2 cell lines were seeded in 96-well plates and were treated with various concentration of aqueous extract of C.st… Show more

“…A study done by Susibalan et al (2018) reported that the consumption of 500 mg/day of Channa striatus for six weeks resulted in improvement in nasal blockage, nasal itchiness, eye itchiness, and general symptoms. Channa striatus extract elicited beneficial effects on AR through its anti-inflammatory properties (Abedi et al, 2012) and antioxidant properties (Radzak et al, 2014). This finding is in line with a previous study done by Thien et al (2002), which found that the content of omega-3 fatty acids in the Channa striatus could reduce inflammation of airways and bronchoconstriction.…”

“…When it is reared in a controlled habitat, the parameters of the aquatic environment such as the pH, temperature and water depth should be kept as close to its natural habitat as possible. For its diet, Haruan fish can be fed with a wide range of food products including formulated food [46][47][48].…”

“…In recent years, extensive work has been conducted to analyse the antibacterial effects of the mucus of fish species [93][94][95][96][97], including the Channa species. Several research studies [48,[98][99][100][101][102][103][104] were performed over the years to evaluate the antibacterial and antifungal activities of Haruan. Most of the studies [99][100][101][102][103][104] revealed that Haruan displays some antimicrobial activities, except two studies [98,99] which detected negligible inhibitory effects against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli strains respectively.…”
