Total phenylethanoid glycosides and magnoloside IafromMagnolia officinalisvar.bilobafruits inhibit ultraviolet B-induced phototoxicity and inflammation through MAPK/NF-κB signaling pathways

Abstract: Magnolia officinalis var. biloba is used as a traditional medicine in China and as a food additive in the United Kingdom and the European Union. In this study, total phenylethanoid glycosides (TPG) and magnoloside I a (MI a ) from M. officinalis var. biloba fruits showed excellent radical scavenging activities and potent inhibition activities against ultraviolet B (UVB)-induced oxidative damage in vitro. In vivo, TPG and MI a inhibited UVBinduced skin phototoxicity in mice upon continuous irradiation for 10 da… Show more

“…MAPKs are a group of signaling proteins that include p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase, c-Jun nh2-terminal kinase (JNK), and extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) [37]. MAPKs and phosphorylated MAPK proteins can regulate NF-κB activation [38]. The activation of this signaling pathway is closely related to the development of inflammatory responses [39].…”
