“…A previous study revealed that the median time to bladder tumor and other metastases was 8.7 months (IQR, 6.0-18.5 months) after RLNU-BCE. 11 None of the 48 patients in our study had developed tumor recurrence after 13 months (IQR, 7-20 months) of follow-up. The patients were still continuing follow-up at the time of this writing.…”

“…The retroperitoneal approach allows for a large degree of blunt separation within the perirenal fascia. 11 It has a shorter operative time than the transperitoneal approach, which is primarily characterized by sharp separation. Additionally, the retroperitoneal approach allows the surgeon to enter the operating field more quickly with less damage to the isolated abdominal organs and tissues, thereby significantly reducing the risk of postoperative bleeding, infection, and other complications.…”

“…Laparoscopic nephroureterectomy has been shown to be feasible and safe for upper-tract urothelial carcinoma (14, 15), but the practicability of this procedure has rarely been assessed in the management of patients with tuberculous non-functional kidneys. Tuberculous lesions can affect the entire collection system, including the kidney, ureter and bladder.…”

“…A large retroperitoneal working space was made by first dissecting along the psoas muscle cranially to make the retroperitoneal fat tissue clear. Similar to a standard laparoscopic retroperitoneal nephrectomy reported by Fang [9], the renal vessels were isolated and ligated and the kidney was completed mobilized. Before further mobilization of distal ureter, the ureter was ligated by hem-o-lock distal to the tumor site to prevent intraluminal tumor seeding.…”

“…In detail, we perform laparoscopic extravesical BCE in the TP approach and open extravesical BCE in the RP approach. Few surgeons[18] performed retroperitoneal LNU with retroperitoneal laparoscopic BCE for the treatment of UTUC. It is hard to dissect, cut and especially suture during the management of bladder cuff in an extremely small working place through the subcostal trocar.…”
