Totally 3D-endoscopic patch closure of aorto-right ventricular fistula

Abstract: Video clip is available online.Aorto-right ventricular fistula (ARVF) is an extremely rare malformation that can lead to heart failure if left untreated. Therefore, surgical repair is recommended, but a suitable approach remains a matter of debate. Here we report a case of totally 3D endoscopic minimally invasive repair of AVRF.

“…The authors are to be congratulated on the excellent visualization and technical success of the operation and for their expansion of their minimally invasive platform using endoscopic assistance via a right lateral thoracotomy approach. 1 The anatomic location of the fistula in their report is consistent with historical reports of the right SoV communicating most commonly with the right ventricle. 1,2 In addition to the etiology presented, similar fistulas have occurred as a complication of transcatheter aortic valve replacement.…”

“…In their article, Fukomoto and colleagues 1 describe the use of a total 3-D endoscopic surgery approach in a young patient with an aorto-right ventricular fistula due to ruptured sinus of Valsalva aneurysm. The case report is presented with clarity and complemented by high-quality perioperative images and an excellent video of the technique.…”
