Tourism Effect on the Spatiotemporal Pattern of Land Surface Temperature (LST): Babolsar and Fereydonkenar Cities (Cases Study in Iran)

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of tourism on Land Surface Temperature (LST), an issue which has rarely been considered in the tourism development literature. In this research, remote sensing techniques have been used to analyze the changes in the LST and spectral indices including the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Modified Normalized Difference Water Index (MNDWI) and Enhanced Built-Up and Bareness Index (EBBI). The data used were based on Landsat Collection 1 Surface R… Show more

“…Under the background of global warming, the island's overall land surface temperature is rising, the Impervious and Barren most obvious ( Figure 4 ), with a simultaneous temperature rise in Cropland, Forest, Grassland, and Water. Safarrad et al ( 57 ) analyzed the impact of tourism on LST and found that the LST between tourist areas and other regions was significantly different. In addition to the changes in natural elements, tourism is usually accompanied by a large inflow of people into the designated islands, during which, a large amount of anthropogenic heat will also be generated, resulting in heat discomfort, which will negatively impact the physiology and psychology of tourists ( 28 , 58 ).…”

“…In this regard, the Law on Article 100 of the Municipalities Commission has the same nature as Article 3 of the 1995 Law on Preservation of Agricultural Lands and Orchards, providing the possibility of paying fines for construction violations and land use changes within urban areas. In this regard, some researches show that a large part of the municipal revenues is related to constructions and land use violations, and this figure sometimes constitutes more than 70% of the municipal reve nues [54][55][56][57][58]. Therefore, despite the numerous laws preventing the land use change and construction violations (such as Article 100 of the Municipal Law), there is no practical and serious obstacle against the land use violators.…”
