“…In the present study, participants in the PIU group had higher scores, compared to the control group, on motor, attentional and non-planning impulsiveness ( Lee et al, 2019 , Mottram and Fleming, 2009 ), tolerance of frustration, emotional pain, and ambiguity ( Akbari, 2017a , Ko et al, 2008 ), negative beliefs about thoughts, positive beliefs about worry, need to control thoughts, and cognitive confidence ( Akbari et al, 2021 , Hamonniere and Varescon, 2018 ), and RNT ( Bağatarhan and Siyez, 2020 , Dempsey et al, 2019 ). Also participants in the CUD group had lower scores, compared to the control group, on family, and significant other support ( Ates et al, 2019 , Leos-Toro et al, 2018 ), and had higher scores compared to the control group on motor, and non-planning impulsiveness ( Lee et al, 2019 ), tolerance of frustration, emotional pain, and ambiguity ( Hasan et al, 2015 , Ko et al, 2008 ), and suppression ( Blanchard et al, 2019 , Buckner et al, 2017 ), and need to control thoughts ( Hamonniere and Varescon, 2018 , Wasmuth et al, 2015 ), and RNT ( Hamonniere et al, 2020 , Hill, 2020 ). These findings are fully aligned with previous research.…”

“…Over the last decade, empirical research has supported this conceptualization by showing that depressive rumination can predict, concurrently or prospectively, alcohol use level, and problem drinking in clinical and nonclinical populations (Borders, 2020; Caselli et al, 2008, 2010; Devynck et al, 2019; Hamonniere et al, 2020). Moreover, experimental data have shown that perseverative thinking processes appear to be a trigger for craving (Caselli et al, 2013) and that alcohol consumption reduces induced rumination (Mollaahmetoglu et al, 2021).…”

“…However, given the paucity of empirical data available to date, it is necessary to continue investigating their potential role. Furthermore, as Hamonniere et al (2020) have shown in the field of alcohol use disorders (AUD), it is very likely that RNT and metacognitive beliefs interact. That is, the influence of RNT in cannabis use could depend on levels of endorsement on metacognitive beliefs.…”

“…RNT is closely linked to anxiety and depression [ 71 , 74 ]. It belongs to predictors of dysfunctional coping strategies in stressful situations, for example of problematic alcohol consumption [ 75 , 76 ]. Moreover, earlier research found a positive association between RNT and PSU severity [ 77 , 78 ].…”
