In this work, a prototype for a low-cost application was developedaiming to assist vision impaired individuals. The prototype is awearable device, equipped with a Raspberry Pi for image processingof the frames captured from a camera strapped to the user’schest. The feedback is provided by means of vibration motors, attachedto an armband, allowing to distinguish obstacles accordingto its proximity. The obtained preliminary results demonstrated thefeasibility of the proposed approach, collaborating with a bettermobility process with low-cost setups to assist the detection ofobstacles.
