Toward the use of local monitoring and network-wide correction to achieve QoS guarantees in mobile ad hoc networks

Abstract: This paper presents the exploration of novel mechanisms toward providing Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees in mobile ad hoc networks. We study mechanisms that provide differentiated services to packets of varying priority traffic flows. These mechanisms do not require any central coordination and do not depend on any specific protocols at the physical, MAC, or network layers. Nodes independently monitor the rates of the highest priority flows and signal corrective mechanisms when these rates fall outside of … Show more

“…Several QoS models has been proposed for MANETs such as INSIGNIA [11], ASAP [12], SWAN [13,14,15], E-SWAN [16], FQMM [17] [18] and LWQ [19]. The major need of a QoS model is to define the methodology by which services e.g.…”

“…Several QoS models has been proposed for MANETs in the previous works such as INSIGNIA [9], ASAP [10], SWAN [11,12,13], (E-SWAN) [14], FQMM [15] [16] and LWQ [ 17]. The main purpose of a QoS model is to define the methodology by which certain types of services (e.g.…”

“…Corrective management operations can be decided from the monitoring information. For instance in [1], a network-wide correction can be defined based on a local monitoring to improve a quality-of-service differentiated service. In this approach, each network node monitors independently the rate of high priority flow.…”
