Towards a comparative analysis of meta-metamodels

Abstract: A cornerstone in Domain-Specific Modeling is the definition of modeling languages. A widely used method to formalize domain-specific languages is the metamodeling approach. There are a huge number of metamodeling languages. The choice of a suitable metamodeling approach is a challenging task because there is often a lack of knowledge about the selection criteria and the offered metamodeling features. In this paper, we analyze a set of metamodeling languages (ARIS, Ecore, GME, GOPPRR, MS DSL Tools, and MS Visio… Show more

“…Despite the heterogeneity, there are common concepts which can be mapped to each other. These similarities and differences are described in a comparative analysis between different meta-modeling languages [12]. Based on this, we can develop a transformation-based adapter approach in order to enhance the model and meta-model exchange.…”

“…For this purpose, we have chosen the Eclipse Modeling Framework (EMF) [18] as a mediator. This meta-modeling environment offers basic meta-modeling concepts in comparison to other environments [11]. These basic concepts allow the emulation of concepts from other meta-modeling environments.…”

“…In summary, this paper proposed a GOPPRR approach to support MBSE tool-chain formalisms and assessment. The GOPPRR approach is a powerful method for modeling architectures [46]. Using GOPPRR approach, meta-models for formalizing MBSE tool-chains are developed based on previous work [11].…”
