Towards a resilient deployment and configuration infrastructure for fractionated spacecraft

Abstract: Abstract-Fractionated spacecraft are clusters of small, independent modules that interact wirelessly to realize the functionality of a traditional monolithic spacecraft. System F6 (F6 stands for Future, Fast, Flexible, Fractionated, Free-Flying spacecraft) is a DARPA program for fractionated spacecraft. Software applications in F6 are implemented in the context of the F6 Information Architecture Platform (IAP), which provides component-based abstractions for composing distributed applications. The lifecycle of… Show more

“…In this paper we focused on KMS and did not treat IDS and GMS any further. The interested reader may find initial readings about IDS and GMS in [76][77][78][79]. In Table 1 we introduced key notations.…”

“…Therefore, collectively, these DMs form a distributed deployment and configuration infrastructure that manages various distributed applications by performing (a) initial deployment and configuration, (b) runtime adaptation via reconfiguration, and (c) termination. In our prior work [46], we identified key requirements for resilient deployment and configuration infrastructure and implemented a prototype. Here we address the same requirements but our implementation is different and relies heavily on capabilities already provided by the distributed database.…”

“…Here we address the same requirements but our implementation is different and relies heavily on capabilities already provided by the distributed database. For example, dynamic group membership is one of the key requirements identified and implemented in [46]. However, for the work presented in this paper, we simply make use of group membership capability (i.e., replica set) supported by MongoDB.…”

“…The Outcome of this paper is to describe variability of the system by alternative invariant decomposition and then to drive system adoption by employing the knowledge of high-level system goals and their refinement to computational activities. [10] Approach used is decentralized, choreographed approach to self-adaptive in highly dynamic CPS. The Outcome of this paper uses Deployment and Configuration D&C infrastructures as adaptation engines to support autonomous resilience.…”
