“…Based on its unique properties, ILs have been used extensively in areas of synthesis (Hernández-Fernández et al, 2010), catalysis (Zhang, 2013), analysis (Sun and Armstrong, 2010), and separation (Blahušiak et al, 2011;Chowdhury et al, 2010;Han and Armstrong, 2007). Furthermore, ILs are regarded as "designer solvents" as their polarity, viscosity, hydrophobicity, selectivity toward target compounds can be changed by combining different anions and cations (Huddleston et al, 2001;Larsen et al, 2000;Sosnowska et al, 2014), so they have been successfully applied for extraction of alkaloids (Cao et al, 2009), terpenoids (Lin et al, 2013), flavonoids (Bi et al, 2013), phenolic acids (Du et al, 2009) and other value-added compounds (Liu et al, 2012;Ma et al, 2011;Severa et al, 2013) from natural sources. During last few years, ILs-based extraction methods have been developed, among which ILs-based MAE and UAE seem to be superior in the view of experimental operation, economic expense, and extraction efficiency .…”

“…PM3 and PM6 [32,33]. By analysing descriptors such as radial distribution functions (RDFs), geometry, and topology, the methodological drawbacks of PM7 tend to vanish, giving results of similar quality as much more expensive DFT methods [34][35][36], why it also has been used for computations of Li + -solvent cluster dynamics [37,38].…”

“…Unfortunately, many publications are conflicted on the specific structural arrangements that impart toxicity to ILs. Recent studies point to elevated toxicity as being primarily affected by cation size or branching [128], specific cation species [129], increased lengths or branching of cation alkyl chains [130], cation aromaticity [130, 131], lipophilicity, surfactant behavior [132], or anion species [131]. Clearly, an improved knowledge of the molecular toxicity characteristics of ILs can help inform the design of greener, less toxic and more benign IL technologies.…”
